This is our first bottling of Malbec. We’ve made Malbec for years to use in our Meritage blends for its delicious blackberry flavor and its back-of-the-palate taste experience. Our Winemaker, Cecilia Valdivia, from Mendoza, Argentina, the center of Malbec fame, encouraged Robert to let this varietal speak for itself. We got three of our growers to plant or bud over part of their vineyards to Malbec, and five years later here it is. The Cabernet Franc gives the Malbec lift and the Cabernet Sauvignon a long finish.
This medium to full-bodied wine, which features dark fruit flavors of blackberry, plums, chocolate, white pepper, cedar and allspice, creates an captivating medley of aromas and flavors. We aged this Malbec in our cave in a combination of Pennsylvania oak and French oak barrels for 28 months to soften the edges, concentrate the flavors and add complexity.
This inky-purple colored Malbec has a nose of sweet red berries and earth, with supple tannins and balanced acidity, which adds layers of complexity to its profile. Deerfield’s Malbec is extremely food friendly and very accommodating; it pairs perfectly with a wide variety of grilled meats, game and robust spicy dishes.
